Lipid profile requires fasting for 12-14 hours before a test procedure to complete the absorption of lipids and achieve the stability of their levels in the blood.

Fasting blood sugar requires fasting for 6-8 hours before a test procedure to complete the burning of sugar in the blood and collect a blood sample while a patient is still fasting.

This test requires monitoring a 2Hrs period since the start of the food intake, which should be completed within 10 minutes at most, to synchronize the secretion of insulin with eating. If a patient is on diabetes treatment, it shall be taken unless instructed otherwise by the attending physician. During the 2 Hrs period, a patient can only drink water.

On the day of the test, having fasted for 6-8 hours prior, a patient must come to the lab in the morning and take a dose of glucose (1.75 g/1kg of weight, up to a maximum of 75g) to do the testing. It is not allowed to smoke during the test procedure.

Decreasing fluid intake in the evening before the day of the test is important so that the hormone concentration does not decrease. The first urine in the morning is preferred because the pregnancy hormone (HCG) is more concentrated. If the test result is negative, we suggest a blood pregnancy test because it is more sensitive.

A patient empties the bladder into the toilet and records the time of that moment, then collects any urine after that in a clean and dry bottle sufficient for such collection. The urine continues to be collected until the next day and time that was recorded at the beginning of the procedure. Before being sent to the laboratory, the urine is kept in the refrigerator.

It is required to abstain from sexual intercourse or prevent the occurrence of wet dreams for 3-5 consecutive days so that the semen quantity is not affected. It is also preferable that the sample is collected in the lab with the attention to getting the first drops of semen because they contain the most sperm. Semen is examined after 20 minutes from the time of sample collection to check the viscosity and after an hour to check sperm vitality. If the sample is collected at home, it should be delivered to the laboratory before the 20 minutes pass. Please note that the presence of water, soap, or cream inside a container used for a semen sample affects the movement and vitality of the sperm.

Inserting an endoscope or catheter and rectal examination of the prostate are not allowed for the period of 10 days before a test procedure unless advised otherwise by the attending physician because this may affect the test result.

The ferritin test is performed after the menstrual cycle is over and before a blood transfusion or iron therapy is received.

Sputum samples are collected for 3 consecutive days and are separately sent to the laboratory. A sample is taken first thing in the morning, immediately after waking up. For the ease of sample collection, it is recommended to inhale water vapor.

To be ready for the FOBT, you should refrain from eating all kinds of meat and radish or taking rheumatism drugs, aspirin, vitamin C, and cortisone for the period of 48 hours before the test. It is also not allowed to use laxatives.

The first sample shall be taken immediately before the morning dose of the drug. The second sample shall be taken two hours after the dose unless advised otherwise by the attending physician. Medicine is taken for 5 days before conducting the test. No vomiting or diarrhea should occur 48 hours before the test.
