Beta-hCG or beta-human chorionic gonadotropin is a blood test used to diagnose pregnancy and usually becomes positive around the time of the first missed period. This test measures the amount of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the blood, which is a hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy.
